Cigar City

Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:43 pm

I attended the Cigar City Launch Party at the Oldsmar Taphouse this past Saturday. HOLY F'N SHIT!

I have to say ... beer aged on cedar is amazing. Here's what they offered:

All Day: Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale
Jai Alai IPA

2:30 PM Cask Maduro
3:00 PM Cask IPA
3:30 PM O.R.I.B.A. (Oatmeal Rye India Brown Ale)
4:00 PM Cask Bolita
4:30 PM OTH Launch Party Amber
5:00 PM Emperor Shennong's Wolfberry Ale
6:00 PM Cedar Aged Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout
7:00 PM Hunnaphus' Imperial Stout

The Jai Alai IPA is reminiscent of 2H. So damn fine. Maduro is a nice brown that tastes of tobacco and caramel. So nice. All the cask offerings were amazing. Every beer has this amazing mouthfeel. Oily and viscous. The Wolfberry was a barley wine brewed with wolfberrys (whatever that is). Zhukov was one of the best Imp Stouts i have ever had.

And last but not least ... Hannaphus ... OOOHHHHH LORDY ... the best beer I have ever had ... ever ... EVER.

according to the site:

The base recipe is Marshal Zhukov Imperial Stout. It is aged on pasillo and ancho peppers as well as vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa nibs.

Well put me on the list for trades. I can come up with something good. Maybe even some Lost Abbey.

You got it Wayne. I'm down for any trade. I work a block away from the brewery, so IT'S ON.

(if you couldn't tell, i am super excited about Cigar City)

I'm also looking forward to trying some Cigar City beers. So sad I could not make the Oldsmar Tap House event :-(
The kids and I did stop by and check out the place in january when I was dropping off BFBC entries...
