Janet's Brown- competition category???

Sun Jan 25, 2009 2:35 pm

I'm looking for opinions. I want to enter my "Janet's Brown" into some NY comps coming up, and what category would it do best in? I'm on the east coast, so I'm afraid it'd be too hoppy for the general American Brown...

Suggestions?

Thanks guys!!!

I took first place in the Michigan State Fair with this beer in 2008 in the American Ale category. I also know that it went quite deep into the BOS round. This beer is amazing, Tasty is the man!

You might get dinged for it being too hoppy if you enter it as an American Brown. I'm drinking a pint of it right now. It's a hoppy little sucker. To hedge your bets, enter it as both an American Brown, and a specialty - Category 23.

+1 American Brown and Specialty 23

Make sure you specify "Brown IPA" on the 23 entry form - I think the beer is more of an IPA with Imperial American Brown Ale malt character than a brown ale with IPA hops. It's simply too big to be a brown ale, but it's certainly not too big to be an IPA. The judges will understand it better that way.
