Memo to self: Pass on that used water pick you saw at that yard sale.

Here's the test.

water does not conduct electricity. the ions in water conduct electricty. Fill a bucket full of your RO water, plug in a toaster, then throw in the toaster and your wife's cat. IF the cat fries, don't use the RO water.

And if it doesn't, then repeat the test with tap water - just to validate the positive test, of course.

of course...

just like mythbusters, you need a positive test result to be sure that god isn't fucking with you.

Yeah it really does depend on the system that you have. My wife and I have been brewing hobbyists for a few years now, and I also work around the water industry. For me personally, I like a system that takes the tds to 0. I use the 5stage RODI system, because it takes the water tds to 0. Most systems do take out 99% of all contaminants and chemicals, and do a good job.(as long as it is 4 stage or 5 stage). But to make sure your system is doing what it is supposed to, I would definitely test it with a tds meter. Some even us a ph meter. You also can use distilled water to make sure everything is removed, but it is a little pricey in my opinion. Look forward to more discussions. thanks.

I don't have a home RO system have have been using 5 gallong jugs of RO water from the store. On their machine, it says the water has been charcoal filtered and then sent through the RO process. I just hope these machines are kept up as far as maintenance. Anyone ever send a sample in from a typical grocery-store RO water dispenser?
