I was reading through the rules (nerd) on the longshot website and came across this.

"D. Beer Criteria
Please use the following general guidelines when designing your recipe to ensure the best results in duplicating your beer, should your recipe be awarded Grand Champion.
Lager:
· OG Range: 11.8 – 20 ºP (1.044 -1.090)
· Fermentation Temperature: 53 - 60ºF
Ale:
· OG Range: 11.8 – 16.5 ºP (1.044 -1.068)
· Fermentation Temperature: 65 - 70 ºF"

I have been reading that some are entering Imperial ales that might start higher than 1.068 and just wanted to pass the info along. The first thing i thought about brewing was a monster but glad i saw this first.

They really need to update those rules. They've already had multiple winners that exceed those guidelines, so they obviously aren't very strict about them. And especially this year, with it being limited to category 23 I imagine there will be even more high gravity beers submitted (imperial this, imperial that, etc.)

Don't worry about it. Just submit whatever you want as long as it's a specialty beer of some kind. I think smoke/wood aged/spice/herb/veggie are also allowed.

All times are UTC - 8 hours
