12th Annual Hoppy Halloween Challenge 2009

Sun Sep 20, 2009 8:55 pm

This is a call for entries to the 12th Annual Hoppy Halloween Challenge 2009 put on by the Prairie Homebrewing Companions in Fargo, North Dakota. The PHC will be accepting Beer, Mead, and Cider entries from October 3rd through October 16. Judging will commence on October 23rd and 24th followed by a banquet and guest speaker Dave Berg from August Schell Brewing Company. The Hoppy Halloween Challenge accepts entries in all BJCP categories including Mead and Cider. Entries can be sent to Fargo or can be dropped off at Northern Brewer, Saint Paul, MN between October 3rd and October 7th.

Our unique category, Halloween Theme Beer (or Mead or Cider) inspires brewers to submit a beer that represents the spirit of Halloween. These entries are judged for creativity by a live judging panel, often with our guest speaker. Past entries have been delivered resting eternally in a cemetery diorama or have been dressed(the bottles) in their own costumes. The Halloween Theme Beer category has its own unique prize.

Awards and prizes will be given for Gold, Silver, and Bronze for each category, and these aren't your everyday medals. Each medal has a handmade lanyard that will stick way out among your collection of medals. You have to see these! Our sponsors have also been very generous this year! We have brew kits, malt, gift certificates to homebrew shops, brewing chemicals, even a Polarware Kettle.

For more information on the Hoppy Halloween Challenge and entry details, visit our website at http://www.prairiehomebrewers.org or email the Prairie Homebrewing Companions at hoppy@prairiehomebrewers.org

Also, if you would like to come to Fargo to help judge our competition, there is information available on our website or you can email judging@prairiehomebrewers.org As an added bonus to your trip to Fargo, pheasant season will be open, a perfect reason to travel to Fargo, Homebrew and Pheasant Season.

You forgot to mention that this one is also one leg in the High Plains Brewer series. Only one more comp after this to get in the running for High Plains Brewer of the year. I will be sending in my entries again this year.

Thanks Bugeater,

I should mention that the Hoppy Halloween Challenge is a qualifier for both the High Plains Brewer and the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year awards.
