The deadline for the state fair is coming up here in a few weeks. Lets try and have a big BN presence this year. It is a great competition and we can always use help with judges and stewards. Last year some of us entered as The Brewing Network and some as BN Army. I say we should all join under the same name and we should go with The Brewing Network since that really gets the name out. I will have about 13 beers in, so get in yours and lets represent the Army well!

I've never entered a competition but i do finally have a couple beers worth sending in for feedback.
What's the deal with "any Michigan made" beer? Is that generally ignored or will they not judge my beer when it says i live in illinois?

I believe it means that you live in and brewed your beer here.

For good or bad, the Michigan State Fair Homebrew Competition is for Michigan residents only. I'm not exactly sure why it's like this, but that's they way they've done it for as long as I can remember. That being said, they did clear 721 entries last year. That's pretty awesome...

All homebrew competiton stuff aside...its a state fair competition. you can't enter it unless you are a resident of that state. Well, you can enter it, but you'll be disqualified.
on another note. it is lucrative for HB clubs to host a state fair competition for the sole reason that the state pays with tax dollars for every aspect of the competition. Well, at least that is how NY state fair works.
And therefore, those who pay taxes (ie residents) in their state can partake in the competitions run by that state fair.

BBKF,
Really? Come on! NYS charges $6 per entry. Looks like my tax dollars plus my stupidity to send the state more money pays for the competition. Maybe, we'll get those wonderful "glad you competed" green ribbons again.
Anyhow, 721 entries in one state rocks!

I think they claim it to be the largest single state competition in the states. Does anyone know of one larger?

Looks like the Ohio State Fair only had about 240 entries last year. That's probably because it's almost impossible to find any information on it at the Ohio State Fair website. Unfortunately I forgot about it again this year and missed the deadline (not like I had anything to enter anyway).
Like the Michigan State Fair competition, this one is also open only to residents of the state.
