How much beer was poured at NHC

Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:37 pm

Just sitting her at work daydreaming of all the beers that I tried at NHC, BNA4, After parties and such. I wonder how many gallons were actually poured. I'm thinking like a million trillion gallons....HMMMM

Try more than 500. I should know- I lifted most of them at one time or another.

I was surveying a few of the big clubs as they left the dock on Sunday and no one said they served more than 20% of what they brought. Smaller clubs generally didn't bring any extra so most ran out if they did a HS shift and Club Night.

The Cellar Master's report wasn't on the Grand Banquet agenda this year so I didn't tabulate any totals other than the 518 homebrew keg count.

IIRC, my Club (Maltose Falcons) and QUAFF tied at 53 kegs each, accounting for almost 20% of the total. Of course, we're both California clubs, so we SHOULD be bringing big numbers. But it's not necessarily about the size of the club, per se, as we only had ten members send kegs, and two of us accounted for half of the 53. :D

Unloading the trailer back at the LHBS on Monday, we had about 15 or 16 empty five gallon cornies and 4 three gallon, plus the firkin, and quite a few kegs that were definitely light. So conservatively, I'd say we poured between 125-150 gallons, not counting the Bruts. :pop Of course, we had the longest shift(s) in the Hospitality Suite.

And having 38 taps running helped, too! 8)

Personally, I was very happy that a few of mine kicked, especially 5 gallons of 11 day old Mild, and a combined 15 gallons (firkin + corny) of the Double Down DIPA, which was also quite young at 20 days.
New here, nothing to put in sig yet.

Although I never thought about it, that makes sense. And the further a club has to travel probably puts a crimp on the number of kegs they can bring.
