NHC 2009: Broken Bottles

Thu Jun 04, 2009 1:59 pm

Got a call today from a brewer at Black Diamond saying a couple of bottles from my entries arrived broken. I used the Clark Brewing Innovations packaging, but had to pack six bottles to a box instead of nine since I had twelve bottles to send. Perhaps it's not as structurally sound if you don't fill it up. Something to keep in mind.

Fortunately, I still have time to send replacement bottles. When I do, I'm sending that guy something nice for catching that and letting me know, which he was in no way obligated to do. Any suggestions for what to send a Concord brewer? I was thinking maybe some Texas beers(Real Ale, perhaps).

That brewer was Derek Smith (coincidentally he's from Texas...or maybe not such a coincidence). He really is supposed to let me handle those things since I'm the Cellar Master. Now he's out for a couple of days and I don't know the particulars of your situation. Can you PM me with the details..like all your entry numbers and which ones broke? Oh and ask me what I think about the Clark boxes.

What I think about the boxes doesn't matter. That's anecdotal. I'm just one guy who cellars a few comps a year. I'm sure Clark Brewing Innovations is contacting competitions all over the country to check how their boxes are performing. I'd ask Clark.

Wow! I know lots of people who have used the inserts and haven't had any problems. I personally know the designer/owner of Clark Brewing and I'm sure he would love to hear any problems or complaints you can email he at brandon@clarkbrewing.com. I think there is even a place on the website to post comments. Have you informed the company of these bottle breaks? Brandon is an extremely nice guy, I'm sure he'll do what he can to make it up to you.
