Homebrew at the WEB!!!

OK ARMY!!!!

Let me start by saying that I haven't judged many comps. But the overall quality of the entries in this comp were 2nd to none!

I have never handed out so many 40+ score before.

I did a shit ton of flights

Did I mention I did a shit ton of flights???

So there is a really good chance that I Judged some ARMY beers.

I want feed back on my judging!!!!

I did a shit ton of flights, and I bet you can prolly tell that on some of the flights!

So here it is, I judged your beers anonymously, and this feed back (of my judging ) is rather anonymous. I have had plenty of score sheets in my past that I didn't agree with the judge, and I have read score sheets of friends beers I didn't agree with the judges over, and maybe you don't agree with the comments I made of your beer.
But all of that aside. There is an obvious standard of quality judging. I have seen the threads here about shitty judging.

Judges can't learn to be better judges without some feed back!!! Just like brewers won't be better brewers with out feed back!!!!

In the past (before I started judging) I have sent emails to judges who judged my beer, whether they placed or not (9 x out of 10 they didn't) and had emails I could read, I sent them emails back complementing them on the quality of feed back I got. Good or Bad results for me. These judges appreciated this feed back, as would I. I have had plenty of score sheets that told me nothing. As I know you all have had.

We won't get better judges if the judges don't know they are failing the entrants!!!

I am going to watch this thread and stand mute. Or send me an Email or PM . I am thick skinned and an can take criticism. But this is not personal! I had no personal interest in the score I assigned you. Plus the number of flights I did, I know I could have filled out better score sheets on some. So don't attack me personally. I did the best I could and know in some cases i could have done better.

This post is intended to spark conversation to improve quality to the whole home brew community. With out judges home brew won't improve. With out home brewers, judges won't improve!!!

Did I mention I did a SHIT TON of flights?

I do ask that a few Judges chime in here to back me up on the amount of WORK judging is. Any judges who have been around know that it is no picnic! Before I judged, I thought that judges had an easy job. They don't!!!

I would also like to mention how important STEWARDS are to a comp. I wish I would have been a steward before I ever judged.

So let's start a conversation. Post here or contact me directly. I would love to hear some feed back. It can only benefit everyone.

Let me outline what I think is good score sheet feed back and which I hope to have provided to you.
Comments and scores make sense? Do they seem in line?
Legibility
Positive feed back?
Constructive feed back?

Did I come across in a negative way?

I won't remember your beer specifically. If you mention what number category you entered and had my feedback on that will help me know the quality of feed back I provided overall ( according to what # flight I was on) I know that some of my scoresheets were not what I would have liked to receive. But judging is WORK and fatigue is a big factor.

I look forward to seeing if you did one of my beers. When will the score sheets make it back?
