1st Maui Brewfest - Saturday, May 30

Fri May 08, 2009 6:09 pm

3 weeks from tomorrow we will have our first (of hopefully many) brewfest on Maui. Looks like I won't have to wait to the NHC to try Bear Republic's Racer 5, Ninkasi from Eugene, and several others that ae not for sale here, but I have heard on the BN. All in all about 15 different brewers are scheduled to show up. It is being sponsored by Kona Brewing, the same folks that have the Kona Brewfest.

This has popped up with very little promotion to date, so I am curious what the turnout will be like. I just found out this morning and picked up some tickets.

For a first time event and pretty limited promotion this place was packed! There was a lot of interest, there were four different bands and many came out in the heat (the tradewinds were not blowing that day and it was pretty warm) and many enjoyed a lot of brew not normally available here.

My friend NapiliDave is taking the lead and is seeing if there is interest in forming a Maui homebrewing club and we met a few folks face to face for this to talk about starting up a club at the festival. NapiliDave also has worked the Kona brewfest in the past and is trying to see if there is interest in a homebrew contest next year. Thanks to the BJCP judges for releasing to us the names and email addresses of the few Maui brewers that entered the last Kona brewfest so we could contact them to see if they are interested in forming a club.

Thanks to Kona Brewing for putting this together and Maui Brewing for sponsoring many of the various breweries and giving me a chance to taste my first Bear Republic Racer 5 and brews several other breweries that I have heard abount on the BN.
