I am in 60th place!

AWOG was my first competition entry. Now I am addicted. I've got 3 beers entered in the UNYHA comp and will enter BEER and the State Fair. Next year, I will plan better and enter all of the competitions, I'd be happy to be in the Top 25 in 2010.

Working for HOTY is nice, but remember, entering comps is about getting good feedback on your beer to make better beer. If you can, I strongly suggest to sit for the BJCP to become a judge or at least consider volunteering your time to steward a comp. You get to taste, smell, see what the true differences are in a bad/good/great beer.

I promise your beers will get better if you give your time back to a competition!

that is exactly how we are in the lead. Last year I not only took the exam, but a couple of experienced judges (that are actually good) put on a series of classes where we went over the topics of the exam and then tasted commercial examples, common flaws in homebrew, and we did the "doctoring beers" kit from the BJCP.

Not only is it good to know what you are tasteing....the most important part is to know where off flavors come from in your brewing process. That way you can correct or avoid potential fuck-ups.

How can two people be in the lead for "homebrewER" of the year? Is that even allowed?

I guess nothing, but I would want to know that I could do it on my own without anyone else.

you still have to be able to brew great beer to win these competitions no matter if it is just you fucking up a good recipe or if 6 other people help you fuck it up. The only benefit is that it helps with the cost....although my brother and I are paying way more than others who just send in five or so entries! Its not cheap entering 15-28 beers into every competition. I bet we spent over $1000 just in ingredients last year. did you buy $500 worth by yourself?

I think its fine, as long as you two hold hands when you get your picture taken. And maybe wear Lunch Meet T-Shirts...
