You ARE going to get a couple of more IBUs out of your FWH vs. Mash hops. Probably not such a good idea in a beer that is already almost a 1:1 BU/GU ratio.

So, does anyone have any experience with First Wort Hopping an Extract beer? The consensus seems that it should be the same as FWH an all grain, but different than Mash Hopping. (I may be restating the obvious, but I want to clarify things)

Does FWH increase the hop aroma?

I may just have to try this, just to experiment. What the hell, right? :D

I did an FWH on an extract beer a couple years ago. I never made the same batch with or without the FWH before or since so I never really had anything to compare it with. It was a very nice British ESB, just never made that recipe again.

Is there a target date for when this should be sent in? I gotta plan my brew days, my 2 year old little girl keeps me pretty busy!

UPDATE... Since the holidays are coming up and many might be occupied and/or traveling:

Rough Deadline for Brewing - December 7th.
Firm Deadline for packaged beer / Final Commitment - Jan 4th.
Firm Deadline for shipping - Jan 18th.

I have all the necessary information from the following (thank you):
Steelers&Beer, ThunderChicken, Petedadink, LocalBrewer, Junket, Rhino777, PseudoChef, Dresselbrew, 6thstreetbrewer, Brian Perkey, BDawg, and me.

I just need BJCP experience from the following:
Crut, Thirsty Mallard, Whitebeard_Brewer, Sheen, Lars, oneal66, 6thstreetbrewer

The following people expressed interest - but I have nothing so far:
beerocracy, dmac08, siwelwerd, Brandon, triple-oh_six, BrewTat, BadRock, SoCalBrewer, blipiddybrew, Smiley Dan, herbaljoe, iloman, Brew Engineer

If you are on one of the bottom two lists (or you haven't told me yet and you are interested), please make sure that you email me - keith [at] mycek [dot] com - 1) your address 2) your email address you prefer, 3) your forum name, and 4) your BJCP (or related) experience.

Please keep in mind that we will probably have two rounds - but I'm not sure of the size of the groups yet. I'd like to keep it to 4 maximum. So to be safe - make sure that you package up at least a 6 pack of 12 oz bottles. No need for regular comp restrictions - since the tasting groups are spread out, you need to know whose beer is whose. Someone asked if recipe mods are allowed - the answer is yes, but they are discouraged. The whole point is that we are all brewing the same beer. Believe me, there will be enough variation - even if we use the same ingredients. Considering the recipe choice, however, I understand that some people might not be able to get the exact hop bill. Try your best. All grainers - make sure you adjust the recipe for your own efficiency.

Brew strong, brothas. You should have plenty of time to brew. Package when you are ready - but no later than Jan. 4th. Please email me when you brew, so I can keep track. Shipping instructions will be posted by the deadline.

Hey Mylo, I've had a change of brewing plans. Not sure if I'll get the Brown Ale brewed in time. Is there a deadline for joining the event? If I'm able to get it brewed before the deadline, I'm still interested.

I'm still brewing today, just not the brown...
