Wow…last night was something to experience. The Black Forest Brew Haus in Frankenmuth Michigan brought together seven of the nine Michigan GABF medals winners for a tasting and discussion with the brewers.
We got to sample Bell’s Lager (Bronze, Bohemian Style Pilsner), The Jolly Pumpkin’s Bam Biere (Bronze, Session Beer), Big Rock Chop House’s Red Rock (Silver, Belgian Style Lambic or Sour Ale), The Black Forest’s Pirate’s Porter (Bronze, Robust Porter), Redwood Brewing Company’s Cream Stout (Silver, Sweet Stout), Kuhnhenn Brewing Company’s 4th Dementia Old Ale (Bronze, Old Ale of Strong Ale), and Arcadia Brewing Company’s Cereal Killer Barleywine (Gold, Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer).
Absent were Shorts Brewing Company’s Bloody Beer (Silver, Experimental Beer) and Bastone Brewery’s Saison Du Bastone (Bronze, French/Belgian Style Saison). I really wish they would have been there. I’ve had Bastone’s Saison, but I’m yet to try Short’s Bloody beer. After hearing how it was made, I can’t help but wonder if it will be made again…Crut?
This was a great opportunity to talk to the brewers and pick their brains about recipes and process. Not to mention that there was a crazy selection of cheese and sausage to pair with the beers.
It was really one hell of a night. Great time had by all.
