That's right, I'm hell bent on starting a brew club here in Joplin Missouri!!

I'm not going to stop until we have at least 5 members!!

I'm sick of the lack of brewing culture in this little town and I refuse to drink one more Pabst Blue Ribbon!!!!!!

Here it is guys

Tell everyone you know in the Joplin Area or I will drunk call the Sunday Session again

I mean it! I will make the call!!

So tell everyone you know in the Joplin area!!

You would be surprised how many are out there looking for a club.

We are in a desert for beer, but a friend of mine had the idea to start a club and we found there are 10-20 home brewers scattered about a small island (120,000 folks) in the first few months of starting the club. If you have 100,000 folks within a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from your place, you might find the same.

If I was to drive from Dallas to St. Louis I'm guessing it is a 10 hours drive and Joplin is close to the middle (4 to St Loius and 6 to Dallas)?

Brew Maui is only three months strong and we have a local brewpub that helps us with ingredients (no LHBS here), an internet guy, and varied group of folks interested in brewing with all different experience levels.

You never know until you ask around.

Stick with it, Blowmax. I moved to BFE in January. No club. No LHBS. I decided to start a club and tried to get the word out there. We are growing slowly, but last meeting we did have about 6 people show up. There are acutally over 30 people on the email list who want to come out for a meeting, but always seem to have something else going on. They do communicate through email, but there are alot of them I've never even met. This does provide me hope for the future of the club. These people are telling others. And eventually, we will find a schedule for meetings that works well for everyone. I have been on the local radio announcing the club, putting fliers up everywhere, ads on craigslist... Everything I can think of to turn people on to the idea. I've had a lot of response from non-homebrewers who are interested and have already converted 2 people in the last 6 months. I do live in a community ran by Baptists, so "beer" is a bad word. But it does seem that we are making progress in changing public opinion. Slow progress, but progress, nonetheless.

Try starting a HB club in a state where it is still illegal!!! That sucks!! Ask me how I know......hard to advertise a club!

I felt the same way last year. We started a club in December 08 and are still growing. Just post on all of the beer forums, craigslist, form a Yahoo group, etc. to find members. That got us to around 8 members (none of whom I knew before starting the club). Then we got an article written about us in the newspaper which brought in some more, then we participated in the area's first beer tasting which earned us two more newspaper articles and a TV interview in addition to the 1,000+ people who drank our beer at the event. Just keep at it, you'll get there.

Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day on the 7th is a great opportunity to get your name out there if you can put together an event. It's also a good excuse for a newspaper interview.

Stick with it. Back in '05, I helped start a club and there were only 3 of us. It took a year, and we were up to 8.
Now, we have about 18 or so that show up from time to time. Only about 8 of us are the "regulars", but it's nice to see the club grow.
