Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence

Sun Oct 21, 2007 1:09 pm

So the wife and I decide to drive down to Cooperstown yesterday to check out the cider mill and go hiking. While we're there I convince her to stop in at Ommegang for the tour. I've been there a few times now, but its always worth stopping.

They were sampling their new 10th anniversary Belgian Chocolate Stout. Um, yeah, is THAT good! Roasty, but not too sweet. The belgian chocolate comes through very nice. Its technically a milk stout, made with lactose. I highly recommend to anyone lucky enough to find it!

I bought me a bottle (as well as a few others), and I also have a bottle of their Ommegeddon funk house beer I'm saving for a special occasion... maybe my anniversary... that's coming up soon. The wife wont mind me passing out drunk on the first anniversary, will she???

Sounds tasty! Do you know if it will get distributed to stores, or is it a buy-at-the-brewery-only kind of thing?

I know its being distributed, but I don't know the range or timeframe. It was only just released last month.

Bought it today as part of a 10th-Anniversary package that also included a Hennepin, a 3 Philosophers, and a glass. It was the last of that package the store had, and they had none of the chocolate stout just by itself. I think I'm going to wrap up just the stout bottle as a present for my wife, and keep the rest of the package for myself.

As part of the GABF tear down team Vanna and I were invited to the Brewer's Association after party where they had this beer on draft. What a great beer. It's been a while but I remember thinking that it was slightly bitter and that kind of detracted from the whole chocolate experience.
