best style for backyard party

My son's birthday party is this summer, and we are having a lot of people over. Mostly just hanging around in the backyard, bit of food, nothing fancy. I am planning on having my Pliny the Elder clone on tap and probably Jamil's Evil Twin, mostly because they are good and I like to drink them. There will be some beer people there, even one or two homebrewers, but most of the guests are going to be non beer geeks. I'd like to have one thing on tap more for them.

Styles I am considering are a hefe, a belgain wit, or possibly an alt. I have never brewed any of these styles. Anyone find a particular style that really goes over well with the masses? I also want it to be something that I would like to drink, so no pale lagers. In fact I might not have a great cooling method by then, so lagers are probably out of the question anyway. I am a little more interested in drinking a wit or alt, but a hefe might go over better. Any input would be great - a recipe would be even better! Thanks

JG

Had a similar situation last year...had an IPA, brown, wit, and pils on draft...went through 10 gallons of wit, i think that would be your best bet...hefe can sometimes have a bit of an off putting flavor to people not used to it (unless its an american hefe)

I made Jamil's Cream Ale, 4.5 gallons gone in 45 minutes. It's a great beer to test your brewing skills as there is not much to hind behind. I even used dry yeast for the first time.
Good thing a bottled a sixer before hand for comps.
Cheers.

Belgian Wit all the way. Its a ladies pleaser and a beer geek pleaser and low alcohol. The recipe out of Brewing Classic Styles is great.

In my experience, the masses will drink up a cream ale or a blonde ale.

I vote Belgian Wit. Very crowd pleasing. Once brought a batch to a wedding party and even the people who only drank Coors light their whole life helped kick the keg!

He's only two, but I guess it's never to early to start (maybe that only applies to things like playing the piano)!

It sounds like Belgain wit is the winner - although I was digging the alt idea, maybe next time for myself.

Thanks for the input. I will check out BCS for the recipe (I need to buy a copy, maybe for my birthday!
