Hop aroma on Jamil's Westcoast Blaster

Thu Nov 26, 2009 2:02 pm

l recently brewed this beer. I just took a sample for a hydrometer test and beer is tasting good but it lacks the strong hop aroma I was expecting. I followed the recipe and had 4oz of hop additions in the last 10 mins of the boil (replacing Cascade with Ahtanum). I know I got good hop flavour from that, but I'm disappointed in the aroma. Has anyone dry hopped this beer with good results? If so, what hops?

ive used columbus amarillo and simcoe as a dry hop on that one. It's not necessarily reinforcing the kettle hops but it makes for a nice pungent aroma, very pliny-ish

I dry hopped that beer with one ounce of cascade for 6 days. It was perfect, the aroma invited you in the glass for all those flavor hops.

Dry hop the Blaster with 2 oz of american hops (any C will be fine, cascade, centennial, chinook, amarillo, etc). I always have to dry hop my beers to get a nice hop aroma in them. Zero minute additions are okay but I just can't cool the beer fast enough to really keep those fresh aromas in the wort. Dry-hopping is a must for this one!

How about an ounce of Chinook and an ounce of Ahtanum?

I went with Ahtanum and Chinook for the dry hop on this beer. One ounce each. The Chinook added a nice piney aroma. I'm tempted to call it "Piney the elder"!
