Traditional Scotch Ales were made using the first runnings and the second runnings were used to make a 'two penny' ale. With that in mind, my wife suggested we save the second runnings from each batch and boil the wort in the wort left over in the bottom of the pot after brewing sessions to create an extract. We save up these extract boils until we have enough for a 5 gallon batch. My wife also freezes the spent hops from batches in zip lock bags. All this is made into a batch I call dregs. It's a mystery how it will turn out but that's part of the fun of it. So far we have not been disappointed.

Cheers!

Well, it's cool that you enjoy the results and are having fun. Doesn't sound like anything I personally would be interested in doing.

The gunk in the bottom of my brew pot is stuff I want out of my beer.
