sourbeer virgin

So I've never tried a sour beer. But am becoming more and more intrigued. Any suggestions for my first taste. I like most other Belgian styles.

Rodenbach Grand Cru should get you started in an interesting place. From there the world is your oyster.

Well if you can get it, pretty much anything sour from Russian River or Lost Abbey.

Liefman's Goudenband is a great Flemish Brown, Orval is good (while not what most consider a sour beer), like the above poster said the Grand Cru is good

While not my favorite of my sour beers at all: agood introduction can be any of the fruit lambics from Lindemans. They have been pastuerized and re-sweetened so they can be more approachable. Another one is the Duchesse de Borgnone. Then when you are craving the sour you can move on to some of the products that lack the sweetness. This one is similar to the Rodenbach that was mentioned earlier but, I think, even easier to start someone on. Good luck and watch out you can get bit by the bug like lots of us where you can't get enough.

Thanks guys. I wrote those down and will see what I can find around here. Not much selection. I did try a lambic before and didn't like it at all. i don't know if it was the real thing or not though. I don't like sweet beers.

Stay away from Duchesse. It's a sacharin mess off of a beer. If you can find Girardin Gueuze, try that. It's nice and sour, but very dry. Regular Rodenbach is a mild sour and very tasty. Lindemans Cuvee Renee is nice for a training wheel sour.

Yeah you are pretty much in a beer wasteland in that part of Georgia. Hope you find some stuff. If you cant well just make it! If you have Jamils book the Flanders Red is a good one you could start with. That will get you pretty close to the Rodenbach

I'm afraid to make a whole batch of that. I looked online and saw ther is a homebrew store in Columbus GA about 60+ miles away that sells some of Belgian beers. They also have a small homebrew shop. I think I'll make a trip. I need to buy some bottles ( so expensive to order online). I've got 10 gallons I've been aging for like four months. I want to bottle it up and lay it down. Hopefully I can find something. I saw in the sour beer section someone mentioned to try 3 Philosphers by Ommegang. I like that beer already, but it's not a sour. I realy want to try Ommegeddon. :pop
