Mlid Ale

I have decided to do my first 5 gal batch brew...a Mild Ale recipe from Northern brewer ( just to get the experience in).

I have a question about this recipe, it says the ready time is 4 weeks.
1.) Is this correct or should I just follow the 2-2-2 rule?

if this is the correct time to completion then what would be the rotation? IE. 2-1-1, 1-1-2?

thanks for your help.

You can just go Primary to Bottle... don't worry about a secondary. Mild is one of those where younger is better IMHO.

I would be bottle carbonating so how long should I let it carb. before putting it in the fridge? or should I do 1-2-1 one week fermentation, two weeks carbonation, and one week conditioning?

Yeah, what Nate said. Just let is sit in the primary for a couple of weeks then put your priming sugar in the secondary, transfer the beer to the secondary just to get the priming sugar evenly distributed and then into the bottle for another couple of weeks. Then drink!

When I say put it in the secondary, I only mean use some vessel to get your beer off the yeast bed and get the sugar into solution. It doesn't sit in the secondary any longer than it takes to finish bottling.

and in general, bottle carbonation = bottle conditioning

2-2, don't ferment for a week, it would probably be fine if you only had a week, but i'd give it about 10-14 days in the primary, then bottle and hold it at room temp for two weeks. after that drink it. cold conditioning for a week or two might make it better, but its optional and i'm not that patient.

And keep your carbonation level on the low side... I always use 1/2-2/3 cup brown sugar dissolved in another 1/2 cup of hot water for these types of styles... and really that have enough carbonation in a few days at room temp.

mild ale's carbonate in a couple days,
mlid ale's take a little longer.

Wow!! you guys are great!!

So let me get this right .....

I should just do 2-2-0 (2 weeks fermentation, 2 weeks carbonation and then drink)

the carbonation I should keep on the low side( I was thinking about 2.1 oz (59.53 grams)) rack to bottling bucket after adding the priming sugar dissolved in boiled water to the bucket. So over all the recommended time of completion is about right?

All times are UTC - 8 hours
