Re: How many beers have you made from Brewing Classic Styles?

I concur with JZ. Brew it well and odds are it will do well in competition. I think process will separate the best, better, good and not-so-good. Additionally the subjective nature of judging will stratify the entries. For example with 2 beers I brewed from BCS, I tweaked the recipes slightly based on process at the time and available ingredients. I overshot the OGs due to better efficiency than expected and one of the two beers (Tripel) finished a little high on gravity.

In the end my Robust Porter took second place in Porters (36 1/2 points overall) and my Tripel (37 1/2 points) did not place, but the comments all reflected slight inadequacies in my process.

In any case, its still cool you have brewed so many styles. I need to back off to 5-gallon batches again since my upgrade in equip. I can't clear my fridge fast enough to brew that much!

Since you are having so many issues with the new equipment producing too much beer... you can ship your excess beer to me so it can be properly disposed of. Then you can brew even more. It's a symbiotic relationship. I get, I mean dispose of, the extra beer... you get more space to store more beer that you brew.

You're welcome :D :jnj

I brewed Janet's Brown about a year ago, and I have also brewed the Scottish 60/- a couple times. Mostly now though I just use the book for reference, ideas, and to check whether I'm adding way too much of something!

I was just looking through the book thinking about doing the Winter warmer at 1.090. It will be my biggest beer yet...and I've gotta say it's a little scary!

Through a Mild Darkly
Pale Mild from Zymurgy (doesn't really count, but it is JZ's recipe)
Modified Raison d' Saison
Munchen Grosses Bier
Wittebrew x2
Janet's Brown tomorrow
No Short Measure next weekend

... so 5 (or 6 if you count pale mild) with 2 on deck and more to come.

I just kicked a keg of that pale mild from a recent zymurgy. I could be wrong but I don't believe that is JZ's recipe. Didn't Pasquinelli write that article? I have seen JZ's pale mild in Brew your own, and Pasquinelli's has different hops and more malts I believe. Anyway, I brewed mine a bit bigger (1046) and it turned out awesome! Good to the last drop, even if it only lasted 1 mos!
