Agreed on their smoked Helles. Their regular Helles was awesome, too. Shiner Black is great and makes great beer bread, btw.
Shiner Bock is one of those beers that you have when you just want something easy drinking, cool and refreshing but won't stoop to the level of an American Light Lager. Nothin' finer than an ice cold Shiner!
If you are really bent out of shape about them calling it "Bock", I believe the name goes back to the early days of Texas labelling law where ignorant lawmakers made them label it "bock" because it was a dark beer. I could be wrong, but that's the word on the streets. If you want a true Shiner "Bock", have the Shiner Commemorator (Shiner 100). It's a fantastic beer (at least I think so).
