SWMBO Beer

I need help on a good beer for the SWMBO. She enjoys my vodkas and my rum. Now that I am starting to make beer I would like to make her some that she would enjoy. Problem is I like porters and she likes coors lite. I know coors lite WTF. I have given her amber ales, hefs, dark ales, the list goes on and on but not one she cares for yet. Does anyone have a for sure beer to help convert the masses to drink a good beer rather than piss water. A all grain recipe would be a great help. Thank, Pugi

I find that people who say they don't like beer, or only like something like Coors light really mean that they don't like bitterness. You've already tried a hefe, so maybe try a witbier, an American Wheat with fruit, any of the Scottish styles, or one of the many Belgian styles that have low IBUs.

If all else fails, make her some wine instead!

+ 1 on the fruit beer. I did a raspberry honey wheat for a purse party I was having, and allll the girls LOVED it. Even the ones that didn't normally drink microbrews, or even beer at all. Also, has she tried a sour? This is a good gateway IMO. Very difficult to brew. But if you get her started drinking it, hopefully you can start moving into other beers. Also maybe a double chocolate stout. Everyone likes those right?

My better half is the same way. She normally will only drink white wine but the one of my beers she likes is my Heather Ale. It's basically a Scottish 70/- with significant amount of heather tips. I use some in the boil, some as a "filter bed" as I rack to the fermenter (think of it as a "heatherback") and then dry "hop" with more late in fermentation.

This recipe is partial mash but I'm getting ready to rebrew it and will be converting it to all-grain when I do.

You might also try a cream ale on here. Nice pale color and light on hops. If you can, find a six pack of Genesee Cream Ale and have her try it. This will save brewing 5 gallons of beer she won't drink. Lot's of good recipes out there. I brew a rye version that folks around here rave about. Even Justin says good things about it.
