Filmlabrat's Black Mild?

Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:30 pm

This was mentioned on the latest session by Push as being a great beer. I wonder does anyone have the recipe (Filmlabrat himself perhaps)? It sounds like an interesting idea.

Hmm. I PM'd Film' about this, but no response. Weird. He's a good dude, but maybe he's blocking me :)

Sorry all, didn't notice the request...

Dark Mild

Batch size: 11 gallons concentrated wort boil. 6 gallons in boil diluted to 11 gallons in the fermenters.

Water: Half carbon filtered North Hollywood tap; half RO/DI (like distilled)

OG: 1.038
FG: 1.011
ABV: 3.51%

Brewhouse efficiency: 70%

Mash: Single infusion at 152F

Yeast: Wyeast 1056; 1 liter starter; lag time 3 hours; ferment temp 68F

7.5# American 2 row
7# British 2 row
2# Crystal 80L
.2# Black patent
.5# Chocolate
.5# Wheat malt
.5# Biscuit

Hops all Fuggle whole flower 3.9% alpha
2 oz. 60 minutes

Notes: This was a two day brew. Day one was mashing and lautering. Wort was overnighted in a carboy then racked off the trub for the boil the next day.

Interesting recipe. Why did you choose an American ale yeast over the more standard English?
