Looking for JP's wood..

Mon May 11, 2009 2:30 pm

I'm looking for JP's Recipe/process for the Oatmeal Stout with bourbon soaked oak cubes.

I want to know more about the type of oak, roast level and quantity for a 5G batch. I guess he soaked the cubes in Makers Mark for a couple of weeks. When do I add the cubes?

I think I have that Zymurgy article some where. Anyone remember if all the details are in the article?

Hey Hop,

Yeah everything is in that article, but basically I put 1 oz in a little mason jar and added enough bourbon to cover the cubes and let that sit for two weeks. Then drain the bourbon off and add the cubes to the beer. Maybe you can let the oak soak for longer than two weeks. Next time I may go four weeks and see if that makes a difference.

Cool man

Did you add that to the keg then? I just re listened to the wood aging podcast on Brew Strong and the information was great, but I didn't get a clear idea of what you did with the Oatmeal Stout that you added the bourbon soaked cube too.

Anyway, Brew Strong or Rock On or Suck-it or whatever it take to say thanks! Your work (and humor) is appreciated.
