Dead hop vines?

Hop growing experts! I need some advice..

I live in North Oakland, CA and I started 3 rhizomes each of two different varieties of hop vines last year: Chinook and Cascade. The Cascade did better than the Chinook, but they both grew very vigorously until early August. Apparently it's a bit too damp for hops in north Oakland... Starting in early August the vines became covered with a white powdery filim that I can only guess is mold and/or powdery mildew or fusarium wilt? Eventually the vines became completely covered with this film, and were dead by September. I am wondering if this powdery mildew/mold completely killed the rhizomes in the soil beneath, or I can expect any new vines in the spring?
Thx,

Your powdery mildew will not kill the rhizomes, you will see more new growth in the spring. Just for future reference powdery mildew development progresses due to peroids of cool damp weather followed by dry warm weather. You can use some products to curtail the activity of the fungus. One that comes to mind would be Copper sulfate, I have also recently tried out a product called Messenger. It is a great product that "tricks' the plants immune system into thinking it is being attacked. For further information and availabilty go to the website http://www.edenbio.com/usa/agriproducts/?m=1 this product is a harpin protein that increases the plants ability to deal with attacks by pests and pathogens. It is totally safe and can be used on edible crops without worry. If you need any further info or advice let me know.

Cheers,
HH

where did you get them.

I saw that you grew your rhizomes and I would like to do the same. I was wondering if you would mind letting me know who you bought them from and when. I saw one site that only sells during April. I was hopping to find some soon since they should be planted here in Tenn by the end of April. Thank you for your time.
