Kick ass! I planted three cultivars a couple of years ago and ran lines (34') to the eve of our house.

Wouldn't you know, that Summer we decided to put the house on the market! It sold in three days.

I went back weeks later and my beautiful bines were dead and swinging in the afternoon breeze.

And I thought they had sold the house.

still alittle early in Flagstaff, plant before late April is almost a promise of snow covered plants. But that's roughly when I'll move into my new place and they will be planted this season 8)

I decided to buy a Cascade rhizome. My parents have plenty of land to plant, and lord knows there will be plenty of sun here in Texas. If this year goes well I may get some Northern Brewer and Chinook next year.

I was gonging to order just one and see how well it grew where I live then I read you only get a partial crop 1st year unless you get the jumbo rhizome. So I decided to go for broke and try 4 varieties so I could have more than 1 established plant for next year, besides they are cheap I spend more on hops for most of the beers I brew. Now I just need to be careful and mark the plants so I don't pull a Justin.

Cascade
Chinook
Magnum
Willamette

I marked the ones I planted last year. The the sun faded the markers so now I'm not sure... Was the Cacade there or over there...???

Ok I had this problem as well and after a bit of research I found this...
Identifying established hop rizomes prior to soil emersion
The best method to identify your hops prior to cones forming is to use a close soil sample.
1. Gather around 1 teaspoon of soil from the plant area (within 1" of the rizome).
2. Mix with 1oz distilled or RO water and let sit 20-30 minutes.
3. Decant liquid into beaker or large cup (250ml).
4. Add equivalent volume of neutral spirits (vodka or diluted grain alcohol) and mix.
5. Let sit 15 minutes.
6. Taste side by side with other varieties, you should be able to pick up the distinct characteristics of the hops.

I don't know why it works but it sure seemed to for me.
