WLP002 Source - Whitbread?

Per the chart provided on the Mr. Malty site, the source of the White Labs English ale yeast strain is listed as Whitbread. When I read the description on the White Labs web site it sure does sound like they are describing Fullers:

"A classic ESB strain from one of England's largest independent breweries."

I have also seen Fullers listed as the source on other forums including a post from Gordon Strong, who's opinion I do respect.

NOTE THIS IS NOT A KNOCK ON THE TABLE PROVIDED BY THE MRMALTY SITE, IT"S SIMPLY A DEBATE. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JAMIL FOR POSTING MR ENGLANDS CHART AS IT IS A WONDERFUL RESOURCE.

I saw that myself and was curious as well. I do think we can get too worked up in sources of the yeast; try a Fuller's (or Whitbread) clone and split the batch between a couple of yeast to see which is closer. Just make sure the fermentation temps are the same.

Also keep in mind that the source may not matter depending on evolution of the strain after it is taken from the source. As soon as they are split up they will likely evolve differently due to the different conditions in which they are stored... I think...

Or the different conditions in which they're used, propagated, harvested, washed, etc. etc. etc.

I know that when I make my bitters with the Wyeast ESB yeast it surely has that Fullers Charecter. Fullers ESB is my favorite beer. My lhbs only carries weat so it is rare that I use the WLP002 unless I get a B3 kit. Just found it odd that every other source I have ever seen claims that WLP002 is Fullers.

Note - The source has been changed and now says Fullers.

Kristen has been sending me updates over the past few weeks and the information looks pretty solid. Sorry for the momentary confusion.
