WLP001 vs WLP051 vs WLP060

Tue Jan 23, 2007 9:41 am

I'm gathering ingredients for my next batch of my Hushpuppy Ale. It began its life as a strong APA but I'm promoting it to an American IPA. The last time I used WLP060 and liked the results but this time I thought I'd try one of the California yeasts. I'm leaning toward WLP051 since its attenuation in a little lower. With a BU:GU ratio of 1 I thought I might like to keep a little more body in the beer.

Thoughts? Anyone have strong opinions on these three strains?

Thanks

I have not used 051, but I do like 002 for a sweeter, fruitier ale.

I'm real new to The Brewing Network so I'm still trying to understand the "Asshat" and "No Pants" jokes. Working my way through the archives. Hopefully all will become clear soon! Anyone have a pebble I can snatch?

Among White Labs yeast, definitely the 001. However, for the same beer I actually prefer the Wyeast 1272 American Ale II. Pretty much for the same reason that Push likes the 002 except that 1272 is pretty much right between the two for the sweet and fruity taste. I understand that Push likes sweet and fruity because he wants his beer to be just like him.
