wheat malt or DME ?

Tue Dec 05, 2006 1:45 pm

Probably a silly question but anyway....

Want to make a starter for my wlp300 heferweizen vial.

Should I use wheat malt or DME to make a 1040 starter wort, or doesn't it make a difference ?

a. it dosen't make a difference for a starter
b. Why... make a starter for a Hef... unless your yeast is old or very abused it isn't worth it.
c. Use Wyeast 3068 instead it is better anyway :P

Cool, just wanted to make sure.

Mainly wanted a starter to be able to split it for this weekends brew and wanted to be able to store some. Liquid yeasts are bloody expensive in oz. End up being close to 1/2 the cost of a batch. :( Gotta show SWMBO its financially worthwhile.

Yea, well this is my first use of a liquid hefe yeast. Might try the 3068 another time.
