Roasting wheat malt

Fri Oct 20, 2006 7:54 am

I plan to roast a 1/4 lb of wheat malt for a dunkelweizen I will brew this weekend. Promash gives roasted wheat an average of 650 degress lovibond. That's damn near burnt. Anyone have any experience in roasting wheat malt?

Disable the smoke detectors and warn the neighbors it is not a real fire?
Have plenty of Homebrew on ice when the Authoritys come?

Do it outside on the bar-b-que ;)

I have done up to 300 lovibond 425 degrees for about 40-60 min. 600 gonna be a challange good luck. Don't forget to let the grain age a couple weeks after roasting or you will get some harsh flavors.
