HOPS OBSESSION!

Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:08 pm

I just did a hops inventory to update my spreadsheet. I have 100 ozs of hops in the freezer. 11 varieties. I'm telling myself that this is not an unreasonable amount of hops to keep on hand but then again, I may not be stable. I find that I'm having to fight the urge to order more! At least I'm entering this brewing season loaded for bear. Watcha got?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I generally order 10 to 12 pounds of hops at time, with "hops" (hopes) of this supply lasting a year. Sometimes it does, sometimes not.

I have a couple of pounds of home grown hops and around a pound of miscellaneous stuff. Before I read this post I felt overprepared, now I feel a bit inadequate. Is there such a thing as Hop Envy?

TOTAL Hop Envy! I have ordered about 6 lbs per year for the past two I have been brewing. I also lack the freezer space to store them...

I dont' have the capacity or ability to store that much myself, but since I've been ordering for the LHBS, I've stockpiled stuff there in the walk in. We've got two beer boxes of back stock Simcoe, and one of Amarillo, and a box probably 3 times the size of a beer box stocked with other assorted hops. Thats all the stuff that doesnt fit in the trays on the shelf.
