I've got about 30 slants of various yeasts. Some time this summer my yeast fridge got unplugged for about a week in 75-80 degree temps. I'm not sure if they're all dead. I just bought a microscope from ebay, 640x. Hopefully it's strong enough. What is yeast supposed to look like when it's healthy, what does dead yeast look like, what does bacteria look like? Pics would be great. I'd like to be sure before throwing all my yeast away and starting over!
Thanks,
Medtech

I forget who said it, (maybe a whitelabs or wyeast person), but yeast will generally be fine up to 105'F or so.

Rich picked him up a microscope a while back to look at yeast. I was over at this house checking it out and he mentioned that with the blue dye you can see if the yeast are still kicking. The live yeast will take in the blue dye and... I guess metabolize it and they would be clearer. The dead or unhealthy yeast will absorb the blue dye and hold it so they end up standing out.
Maybe Rich can chime in with a better description.

Hey there,
The dye you should be able to get is Trypan blue or methylene blue. I'm pretty sure with both, dead cells will stain blue and the healhy, live cells should remian unstained/yellow in apperance

Nope, still nothing. I just get the "The page cannot be displayed" page...
...wonder what the deal is...
