Augustiner Yeast?

Fri Oct 21, 2011 7:55 am

Hey BNers,

On the Session with Pizza Port, there was a lot of talk about brewing lagers with the Augustiner yeast strain. Does anyone know if this yeast is available to homebrewers? I have yet to find a source.

Thanks!

I looked into this some time ago. Unfortunately, that strain isn't available through WL or WY. Of the commercial brewers I have heard are using it, I believe they are getting it through Brewing Science Institute in Woodland Park, CO. Their website lists Augustiner as one of their lager yeasts.

Are any augustiner beers bottle conditioned for a cheeky bit of yeast harvesting?

I had a friend whose uncle was a flight attendant send me 3 bottles in 2009. I don't think they were bottle conditioned. But they sure were delicious.

Just saw the new WL 2012 list: http://whitelabs.com/beer/2012_Platinum ... elease.pdf

I wonder if the "WLP860 Munich Helles Yeast" is Augustiner. Can't wait to try it
