Where to get my water tested?

Wed Aug 23, 2006 6:33 am

I keep getting this "taste" in all my beers. I want to test the water to see if that is it. Im on a well. Im assuming high CA, Hardness and iron,,,,, Where is a good place to get it tested, local water testing lab wants $65. I also run the water threw a 100' section of garden hose.

Thanks
Tim

Agreed. That's what I did. You'll want test W-6.

This may be your issue, some garden hoses give a funky flavor to water. Get some RV water supply hoses and see if that fixes it. 100' may cost you a few bucks, but if you don't need all 100' of it you can buy them in 10' pieces. I'd say it would be worth it even after you know what's in your water supply.

I was at Wal-Mart the other day and they even had a filter that was built for RV water supply. $17, I thought about buying it, but it looked to be disposable (IE no filters to replace).

Here is what a Ward Labs result looks like...

Lufah,

Thanks for posting that. It's pretty cool. I notice that there are two samples on there. Did you take samples at different times so that you could compare, or are they from different water sources? My water supply is blended, so my water profile probably varies over time. I am thinking about taking two samples a couple weeks apart before sending them in for analysis. I figure if the samples have different results, I can just average the two to come up with a compromise profile.

I used Ward labs too, thanks to Lufah. They were awesome and very fast.

Brad, if you're gonna test two samples drawn at different times it's probably better to send one in and wait a month or so and then send another. This way one won't change over time while it's sitting around. Better yet, send one in per season since reservoir levels go up and down, etc. Just a suggestion, but whatever you do these guys rock.

It's a pre and post filter samples. I'll probably do it again in a month or so just to see if it changes any.
