Caffeine in a beer (IPA, Stout, Etc)

Wed Apr 20, 2011 12:04 pm

So we've all heard of the malt liquor "Four Loko" which got into some heat for it's ingredients including the caffeine...

Was thinking about how before a drinking session we might sometimes drink a 5 hour energy or something similar since drinking can make you tired...

I noticed you can buy Caffeine in bulk on ebay for pretty cheap!
Has anyone here ever added caffeine to one of your home brews? I was thinking like ~150mg per 12oz beer (maybe a little less if it has less ABV).

What do you all think?
Thanks!

It's bitter shit, and not in a good way like hops can be. Do a one gallon test if you serious about trying this.
