Wyeast Yeast Nutrient

Why does it need to be rehydrated before putting them into the wort. I do it because I am a rule follower, but it seems silly. Doesn't it just rehydrate in the kettle?

Shit... I've been using it for about the last 25-30 batches and never rehydrated. Didn't even know you were supposed to... oh well, the results have been good, so I don't plan on starting to do it now.

yeah I have never rehydrated it either didn't know I was supposed too? I rehydrate the irish moss but not the yeast nutrient...seems to have been working without doing that??

hm I never knew it was supposed to be. I'll try it out. I wonder if its anything similar to the reason behind rehydrating yeast. I guess there is something in there that benefits from rehydration.

My guess is that rehydrating it helps evenly disperse it better in the wort. I sometimes do, sometimes don't, and I don't ever see a difference. It would be interesting to do a side my side.
