Has Mr. Malty's Pitching Calculator Changed?

Has anyone noticed a change in the pitching calculator on Jamils site.

At 1.091 O.G. with 11 gallons of wort the calculator used to give a 4 vile addion in an 8000mil starter.

Now it says that for the same numbers it only requires 1 vile. Either the calculator is off or I am about to really over pitch.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I changed it a bit. In theory, you should be able to ferment out about 3 gallons of starter gravity wort. Some people thought that would be more appropriate, so I changed it.

However, the increase in cells isn't exactly linear, so the real results are somewhere inbetween the old style calculation and the new style. I really need to get a couple more weeks of work in on starter experiments to have a calculation that works in cases from very small to very large batches.

I'm close to getting it done, but unfortunately I'm going to be gone for the month of March and won't be able to work on it until April.

I'll put a link up to the old style so you can pick which style you prefer.

The last batch of I.P.A. I did turned out great. It was so clean and fermented to well.
I had a 1.065 gravity in 10.5 gallons of wort. I did a starter with 4 viles of yeast and 6000mil of starter wort. I let if ferment out for a week, decanted most of the liquid and poured that wonderful yeast in.

It was the cleanest ferment I ever had. The beer is great.

Thanks for the response and clarifying the situation. I am still gonna pitch my big starter because of the great results of the last batch.

I really enjoyed the reading. And it helped me figure out my lag in this batch of Bitter.

Not enough yeast cells to do the job proper. I'm actually debating about adding a pack of dry to get my cells up a bit. But hate to cause i was looking forward to using this yeast a few times.
