Water PH

Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:48 pm

Hi all,
I'm gearing up to brew my first extract beer (Oatmeal Stout) and wonder if the PH of my water is suitable for brewing. I have two sources for water on my property, a well and a spring. I tested both for PH with the following results. Well PH = 7.6, Spring PH = 6.9. Is there anything else I should test for before attempting to brew?
Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it for an extract brew. At least for a while. If you really want to know about your water get a report from Ward Labs...

There is a lot of other stuff to worry about with brewing before your water. If it tastes ok to drink you should be good to brew with it.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
