Yeast Cake - uses for it.

Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:56 am

I use a product that has powder from dozen dehydrated and ground vegetables along with a bunch of dead brewer's yeasts. It's like the worlds best addition to cabbage, potato, celery, carrot, onion, and garlic soup (with thyme and rosemary of course). But I pay like $5.00 for an itty bitty little can of the stuff.

Which sort of puts me to mind of my yeast cake.
I make my conical take a poop when I have the grand kids over and they find it terribly fascinating when it poops (they actually request it) and of course smells like beer. Then I dump all that yeast down the drain as I can't be bothered culturing it for future uses. But what about using it as a flavoring ingredient for things like soups and sauces?

Any one know about recycling beer poop for food?
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!

I have no direct experience with using it in cooking. However, keep in mind that the brewers yeast stuff you buy for cooking or nutritional supplements is grown using unhopped wort. If a small amount of hops in what you are cooking would blend with or not be noticeable then I would go ahead and give it a try. Be sure to let us know how it works.
