I have an extra CO2 tank I use for bottling and purging, however I have actors 5 gallons I wanted to carb out in the cold garage. I went to go hook it up and noticed I did not have any extra gas connectors. But I do have beer ball locks. My question should I either carbonate by connecting it to the output side of the keg and carbonate from the bottom? Or should I just switch the posts until I go to put in on the kegerator?

Do I need to worry about the beer coming back into the regulator? I have the northern brewer regulator which says it has a stop/check valve. So is that enough to not worry about it?

The issue with switching the posts is then once I go to put it in the kegerator I need to de gas and the switch them which is kind of a pain..

no probs with carbing via outpost, as long as there is positive pressure from the CO2 cylinder, the beer wont blow back.
