The process of force carbing is:
1. Sanitize er' thing
2. Rack Beer to keg
3. Close keg
4. Attach Co2 at 30 PSI
5. Once keg is filled with co2 detach Co2
6. Shake keg "like a salt shaker"
7. Repeat steps 4-6 twice
8. Put on Co2 at serving Psi (What is ideal serving Psi for cream ale?)
9. Let beer settle and enjoy

I have my first kegs coming to me today and I would like to have draft beer in my house tonight. My questions are: is this protocol right and is it a reasonable goal to be drinking draft beer the day you receive a keg? I know no to force carbonate every beer but I want draft homebrew YESTERDAY!

4a. Vent the keg a couple times to release any trapped oxygen

Some do it this way, but I always set at the desired pressure and leave it for a week. I may try it this way someday to see if there is any difference.

1.5 -- purge keg with CO2 before proceeding

You purge you keg with Co2 to prevent oxidation, right.

Yup. So if it's splashed around in there, it's only getting exposed to more CO2

My two pin lock kegs just arrived. What is the safest way to vent pressure in keg? Is there a way to distinguish the beer from co2 line?

Gas will have 2 pins, liquid side will have 3.
