How Much Pressure Will a Glass Bottle Hold?

Sat May 26, 2007 8:41 am

So I am going to bottle condition a Belgian dubbel in a week or two, but I have no champagne bottles available. For authenticities sake, I want to carbonate to about 3 volumes of CO2 if not a little more. I have heard however that a normal beer bottle cannot hold this much pressure. Anyone ever try this, I wonder if it is one of those things that will work but the bottle companies just say not to because they are being overly cautious because of lawsuits. If it is unsafe, what is the maximum I can do in a bottle? Anything will help as I am totally clueless right now. Thanks.
