GOT MY KEGS AND CO2 TODAY

Fri May 25, 2007 1:45 pm

(sorry for the mrshenning style subject, but I'm pretty excited).

Since I dont have any beer ready, I'm going to do some root beer this weekend. I hooked up everything and it all works great, also got my $7 CO2 fill (damn that tank was cold).

One thing I didn't get was a line with the screw tightening things to go from the regulator to the dual-output thingy (I should work at Home Depot). I should be able to buy that locally though.

Do to some mis-ordering, I have an extra set of the things that connect the keg to the lines (ball lock), one is black and one is gray. Do these ever go bad or should I give them away?

Also, how do I clean out the beer line? I can't get water into it with that black riser thing on there.

Keep the spares, you will use them
if the lines have screw off versions of connectors you can unscrew them.
if you have barbed fittings you can put cleaning solution in a keg and push it through the lines or unscrew the top of the fitting and pull out the guts, you can then attach a bit of racking hose to the end of the cobra tap and open it, run water/solution through it backwards.
If you do rootbeer in that keg, keep it only for rootbeer. That rootbeer smell/flavor gets into the rubber and sticks around.

I have found overnight soaking in a strong PBW solution will remove rootbeer smell/flavor. I clean out old soda at work all the time and have not had a problem getting rid of the rootbeer.

How do you dry them out then?

Pull out guts on the black connector (screw on top)
keep Cobra tap open
swirl over your head, let air dry
once dry put guts back in.
