While I'm all for the kegging thing, I still have to consider the expense. I only have about $120 for right now. I almost don't want to save it, but I will if I have no other options. I could pony up the diff for a cobra tap system and get the rest of it later, but I would rather get it all at once.

Given the budget I would go with a digital temperature control if you have a fridge/freezer setup, a refractometer is not. Either help with making better beer, better bang for your $100.

I need a float switch. I'm tired of turning my pump on and off every 30 seconds. Seems to me though, that every $100 spent requires $100 more stuff to make it "perfect" which requires $100 more...

When I read the choices for this poll I read it as the following:

A) Do I want to make better beer?
B) Do I want to spend less time making beer?
C) Do I want to spend less time making beer?
D) Do I want to spend less time making beer?

I want to make better beer. Good luck with whatever you end up getting.

You don't have to have a Ph.D. in chemistry to brew beer, but it doesn't hurt.

I have to disagree only on one point...3 (or C)...proper and quick chilling can really help to make better beer. (Stopping DMS production, ready for yeast sooner, etc...)

Other than that, I agree on A,B and D. :)

Cheers!

I'd definitely say start making the move to kegging. After having it as an option I couldn't liove without it. Besides where you gonna get a kettle large enough for a ten gallon batch for under $100. Refractometer strong second..got one for my birthday and it rocks! Anything that helps me control my brew is invaluable. Third is a super chilling system.

As far as a kettle for under 100... If you are not afraid of aluminum (you shouldn't be) check out your local Latino market, ours has "tamale" pots 20g for less than 60 bux
