Nope. I believe it relies on pressure to force the water through the carbon and up out the center.

I already answered in the chat but for others. The filter plugs into the nipple in the botton as seen and acts as the "dip tube" connecting from top to bottom on this here filter. Its the same one i use to filter my water but without the transparent housing. Btw dont connect the inlet/outlets backwards on these filters since they are designed to filter fron inside to out. Otherwise you get charcoalish taste in the beer (if your uwing it as charcoal filter). Dont ask why i know this, and it wasnt really due to user error.
