Stop using the garden hose!

I've been using a (rubber) garden hose (about 15' long) for years now from the faucet to my charcol cartidge filter, and have no detectible vinyl, rubber, or any other off flavors.

I've seen some "garden hoses" that are a much better quality than most and don't put out such flavors some of which are those RV type. Perhaps it could also be that your filter is eliminating those flavors that often accompany garden hoses. Who knows, whatever the case consider yourself lucky that you don't have to battle with that problem.

Well, it could also be that I have always used a crappy old garden hose, and it adds a "complexity" to my beer that I am used too, or consider of positive value. Maybe I'll switch over to a food grade hose to see if there is any difference...........................nahhhhhhh..........

Steve, I do have chloramines in my water, as does virtually everyone in the US that isn't using well water. The carbon filter is supposed to remove them, but I use a Campden tablet as well to be sure. None of that removed the off-flavor I had been getting, which for me was that old hose.
