so a Sunday episode from the past (with Chris Gram) stated that Tasties Thermanator will be split open by a laser to reveal just how much trubb is left in that thing as time goes on. has this happened yet and if not, could it? could you post pics if it happens?
pat.

Why worry? Tasty doesn't. If it's good enough for him, it's sure as hell good enough for me. I recently went back to using my Therminator after several years of brewing with a Jamil-O-Chiller. I even removed the pickup tube from my boil kettle and just scale my recipes up to account for the 1.5+ gallons left below the coupler. I whirlpool the hell out of the wort and let it settle and get the best trub cone I've ever had that way. Just like Mike.

BTW- here's what the inside of a Shirron plate chiller looks like:

I to went to Jamil's chilling ways. I have a thermonater that was used 5 times about 2 years ago. If I were to try it again...
1) how would you recommend an initial re cleaning.
2) how do you keep it from clogging. If I remember correctly I went away from it because it kept clogging before the temp was where I wanted it.

Thanks
Tim

I don't think either one of these guys are even active in the BN anymore. (I could be wrong) but I believe that a nice soak in hot PBW and a good ol fashioned hot water purge should be good to wash out,,,, and for the clogging problem 1) are you useing whole leaf hops? and 2) do you have a false bottom or screan on your kettle outlet?
