Any of you guys live in an HOA by chance? I really want to try the hops thing now but my walls are only 6-7 ft high and the HOA would shit if I had hops back there.

I have an HOA, but they're pretty easy going. They only get on your ass about your lawn or landscaping streetside. I just put up a privacy fence a couple of days ago, but before I did, I checked the bylaws for compliance and the only restriction was that I couldn't use chicken wire or something like that. So I'm pretty sure no one's gonna care about a few hops growing sky high.

I've got an HOA and the dick head president lives three houses down from me. I decided to try my luck and didn't get any nasty grams so it must be okay. I am going to try my luck again this year and up my trellis from 15' to 20'.

Another Question: Here in good old Kansas the winds can be 20 to 30 MPH all day long. How do Hops stand up to the wide open country winds?

They do pretty well. I live in the plains per say and the winds will get out of control form time to time. My hops have made it through 80-100mph winds. I think the ticket is to build your trellises so that the vertical lines remain taunt thus giving the plant some rigidity. Hail is the only weather related enemy in my books.

I got my Hops Yesterday. Now what do I do with them until At least the 1st of April? Better chance of no frost after the 1st. What is the best way to store them until then? :?
