EMERGENCY HELP PLEASE!!

Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:26 am

I have no idea what to do!!! I use a cooler with a bazooka screen for a mash tun. I have a batch in the tun right now and the bazooka screen came loose. How can I lauter this batch and not lose it?!?!?!?

If that exact situation happened to me, I would consider transferring everything to a pot, resecuring the screen, and then transfer back to the cooler. I know you risk off flavors with all the transferring etc...but you probably wont be able to lauter without the screen right? Not sure what kind of beer you are making, you will lose heat during the transfer process, preheat the pot you will transfer to. Lower temps will affect your grains fermentability accordingly...

+1 to Crashlann

On my first all grain I got the top on the cooler after getting the mash in, looked at the counter and my bazooka screen was sitting right there. Dumped everything into my kettle to get to the valve nipple. FYI, the brass valve and fittings are picking up a bunch of heat from the mash, be ready for it to hurt putting the screen on.

Thanks for the help, gentlemen!!! I moved the batch to my keggle and re-attached the screen to the "hose'. What a pain in the ass! It did work but it still kinda sucks. I appreciate everyone's help but think it might be time for me to upgrade my system!!

<*cough*>BULLSHIT!<*cough*>

I once knocked the connector from my false bottom while stirring the mash. That sucked.
Had to scoop and dump grains into my boil pot, clean the grains out of the hose and fb, and reconnect everything. What a pain in the ass.
